Paper Jam
It’s a fact; all machines will have a paper jam at some point. Most equipment will have detailed information on the removal of paper jams in the operation/owner manual. Others will have a graphic display that will show a diagram of where the jam is located. Some steps can be taken to prevent some jams.
- Is the paper loaded correctly in the trays? Make sure paper guides are against the paper.
- Are the settings for the paper correct for the paper loaded? Thick paper, paper size, paper type.
- Are you using the correct material? Labels and transparencies are made differently for inkjet than they are made for laser machines.
- Have you checked for moisture? If paper is left out or has been in the machine for a long period of time, it can absorb moisture from the air. This will cause paper to stick to other pages and also cause curling. If the paper feels cool to the touch, try replacing it with an unopened ream.
When removing paper jams be sure to remove all the paper. In some cases the paper will tear and small pieces will remain behind. These small torn pieces can cause other pages to jam.
In some cases paper can get behind the trays and cause jamming as well as other problems. If the equipment is making a noise, there could be a problem with the drive system or the paper feed rollers. At this point your service department should be contacted.
